Wormwood VR

author, 2016

A promotional virtual reality experience for Netflix's Wormwood that simulates in real time the experience of a bad psychedelic trip from the perspective of the show's subject, Frank Olson, who was murdered by his CIA handlers while experimenting with LSD.

The hotel suite, hallucinated.
The hotel suite, hallucinated.
A face going the same way.
A face going the same way.
And closer.
And closer.

Frank Olson was a military scientist. In November 1953 the CIA put LSD in his drink without telling him, and nine days later he went out of a New York hotel window. The piece reconstructs what he may have seen: the room, the ledge, and the street below, every surface of it breaking into insects.

It was made with Jennifer Wu.
